Your Arrival at Treasure Cay and
What To Expect

By now your trip is all planned and for most of you your airline tickets are all reserved. To make your stay more relaxing and enjoyable we have put together this little set of notes.

As of January 8th. 2007 you will need a passport to enter The Bahamas.

Internet

The library at the Community Hall has computers for you to use. There is a small charge for this service. It's very handy if you have Hot Mail, or a similar mail service. Villas 615, 637, and 645 do have Wi-Fi.

Arrival

When you arrive at the airport, if coming by air, there will be a taxi driver willing to take your luggage and see you to our villas in B.V.O.A. They all know where B.V.O.A. is (opposite the shopping center) and can usually find our villas. If not, tell them to take the center drive, Cabot Drive, then turn into the first parking lot on the right. Villa 637 is on the closest left corner and villa 615 is on the farthest right corner of the parking lot. Villa 645 is at the far right corner of the second parking lot on the right. If you rent a car in Marsh Harbour, or come by boat, why not print a map from our selection at http://abaco.harpswell.com/bahamas.htm.

An Open Villa

When you arrive, your villa will be unlocked and ready for you to kick off your shoes and relax. There is a key hanging just inside the door for you to lock up with while there. There should be fresh drinking water in gallon jugs in the refrigerator. More empty jugs will be under the counter and can be refilled for 50¢ at the laundry (down Cabot Drive and to the left). The tap water is safe to drink, but there is a strong smell of chlorine.

Also, at the laundry and BVOA office is a clipboard hanging just outside the office door for new arrivals to sign in. This way our manager will be able to find you in case of emergencies.

Time to Relax

You'll most likely want to don your suits and head for the pool and/or ocean. Just head down Cabot drive (a short walk) and you will come to the pool. Over on the left side of the pool area, almost hidden, is a walkway to the beach. I first thought the walkway was made the way it was, was to hide it from people. I now know it is made with a jog in it to absorb any large ocean wave which would normally inundate the pool area! To the right of the pool area is a walkway up onto the observation deck where one can observe the beach and ocean without wading through the sand. By the way, the sand on the beach is always cool (go to http://abaco.harpswell.com/beachat.htm for an explanation of this phenomenon).

Donna Hudson and the Maids

Shortly after you arrive, you will be visited by Donna Hudson who is in charge of the maids. She's the lady responsible for seeing to it that your villa is unlocked and ready, with fresh flowers on the table etc. If you have any questions about the villa she is the lady to talk to. She has an office down at the laundry which is in the center of the villa area.

Fans and Air Conditioning

We do ask that, if you use the air conditioning, that you please keep the doors and windows closed. This helps tremendously with our electric bills. Usually we find that most of the time the ceiling fans are adequate to keep cool.

Poisonwood

Poisonwood is not found in the villa area or commercial areas. Rather, it is found around the golf course and wooded areas of Treasure Cay. It will cause a very bad rash similar to poison ivy and should be avoided. Click on the thumbnails below for a good view of what poisonwood looks like.

Shopping

Across the road is a small supermarket, convenience store, bank, post office and liquor store. Beyond this shopping center is the marina with a restaurant (The Spinnaker) and an open air bar ( The Tipsy). If you visit the Tipsy, try the ring toss, it's not a drink! Ask where it is.
